A méteregyezmény 150 éves évfordulója alkalmat ad arra is, hogy a metrológia három részterülete közül a törvényes metrológia történetét a kezdetektől áttekintsük és ezáltal jobban érthetővé tegyük annak jelenlegi céljait és eszközrendszerét. Ahol indokolt röviden rámutatunk a metrológia többi ágával, valamint a Méteregyezmény és intézményeivel való kapcsolatokra.
