Abstract

The Touch Trigger Probe (TTP) developed for coordinate measuring machines, a career-making invention by Irish engineer Sir David Roberts McMurtry is now an indispensable tool not only for industrial automated dimensional inspection and tool setting on modern CNC machines, but also for amateur CNC machine builders. Nothing proves this better than the many sites in which its creator presents a home-made construction of varying quality, from the wooden to the semi-professional. In the following, the problems of this probing head are described, some factory solutions to the problems are described, and then a home-made improvement is discussed. The original of this article was published in the 2017 edition of the Rádiótechnika Évkönyv, where more detailed construction instructions are included.
